
6 2 HISTOBICAL ACCOUNT OF INDIAN SPECIES.
I n 1877^ Mr. Maximowicz described two Indian species from Chinese or Mongolian
e x a m p l e s , and in 1881^ one more from Indian specimens. In the same year Dr. Watt'
d e s c r i b e d and figured under a n e w name a species already figured by Klotzsch. When
d e s c r i b i n g the Indian species i n 1884/ Sir J . D. Hooker published diagnoses of 1-1 species
p r e v i o u s l y undescribed, and again in 1888^ Mr. Maximowicz published descriptions and
figured the flowers of 11 previously inedited Indian species; while, in 18S9,® the writer
i s s u e d diagnoses of 17 more, taking the opportunity of arranging these and also the
s p e c i e s descr ibed b y Mr. Ma x imowi c z according t o the method of the Flora of British India
s o as t o facilitate the field-study of the genus b y those interested in it in India.
