pale, bright brown; nerves 10 to 12 pairs, spreading, interarching -1 in. from the shghtly
recurved margin, rather prominent beneath, minutely and sparsely scurfy-puborulous
a t first, but ultimately quite glabrous; length 7 to 10 in.; breadth 2-5 to 3-ó in.;
petiole -5 to -75 in. Male panicles from the axils of fallen leaves, wide at the base and
narrowing upwards, much branched, lax, the main rachis rather stout, 3-5 in. long
and 2-5 in, wide at the base; flowers rather few, buds globose, rather under -1 in. in
diam,, shorter than the pedicel, rather scurfy; perianth leathery, glabrous, with 3,
sometimes 4, triangular teeth. Andrceeinm almost sessile, sub-depressed, sharply trigonous;

This species is readily distinguished by its 2-ridged young branches and large
cymes of ovoid fruit. This is one of the plants mixed up by WalHch in his No. 6806,
and issued under the name of " M. Horsfieldia, Bl. (?)," which it does not much resemble.
The other species thus mixed are [fide F. Br. Ind. v. 106) M. Wallichii, Hook. fil.
& Thoms., and M. polysphenda, Hook. fil.
