Miquel's type specimens of M. edoearp, from Sumatra and Borneo agree with
this perfectly, and he himself reduced M. syeoearpa here {Ann. Mm. Lugd. Bat. ii 48)
This comes very near M. succedanea, Beinw. (Bnmphia i. 186 ; jK,?. Fl. 1ml Bat í
pt. 2, 56; é- Ann. Mus. Lugd. Bat. ii. 56), which has, however, rufous-tomentosé
fruit.

pubescent leaf-buds and flowers ; young branches rather stout, cinercus, striate, the tips
dark-coloured and smooth. Beatles coriaceous, clliptic-lanceolate, acute at either'end, the
base slightly unequal-sided ; upper surface glabrous, dull, the lower paler ; main ná-ves
20 to 25 pairs, rather straight, spreading, their apices evanescent, impressed on thé
upper, but bold and prominent on the lower surface ; length 6 to 9 in., breadth 3 to
2-35 in. ; petiole 1 in., stent, channelled in front, líale fewer, 2 to 4, on short woody
racemes from the axils of the loaves, or close together on the branches below the
leaves ; pedicels about -1 in. long ; bracteole broad, half-orbicular, embracing the base
