T. HE original description o f Fabricius was taken from a specimen in the Banksian
cabinet, the locality o f America being assigned to it ; some mistake must, however, have
occurred in this respect, as it is now well known that East India is the true country of
this curious species, whicli has received its specific name, Midas, from the size o f the
ear-like pair o f horns at the sides o f the head. The accompanying figure was taken
from a specimen in the collection o f Drury, which was said to have been received from
China. Some interesting observations, on the habits o f this species, have been published
b y Col. Sykes in the first volume o f the Transactions o f the Entomological Society o f
ivondon.
