Moreover, Donovan s figure and description do not precisely correspond with the Fabrician
description, so that on both these grounds I have considered it advisable to g iv e the specific
name with a mark o f doubt. Sphinx Batus and Sphinx Gnoma are nearly allied to this
insect, particularly the former; both are found in different parts o f the East Indies.

This beautiful creature is probably scarce in C h in a ; at least it is very rarely found
among the insects brought from that country.
