The insect here figured, ju d g in g at least from the upper side, agrees with the Linnæan
description o f P . Pyrene, the habitat o f which is given by Linnæus as China. Fabricius,
however, who refers to Linnæus, g ives America as its locality. It is now satisfactorily
ascertained that it inhabits China and various parts o f the East Indies.
The plant figured is Lhnodoriun Tankervillce, an elegant and much admired production
o f China.
