One o f tbe most beautiful species o f tbe Indian Cicadæ. The wing cases are black,
e leg antly reticulated, and spotted with bright blue. A t the extremity o f the abdomen
it has a tuft o f long and very delicate hairs, intermixed with others that are ratiier con voluted
and o f a coarser texture. The whole o f this insect, but particularly between the
abdomen and wings, is sometimes profusely covered with a fine powder o f a snowy whiteness,
similar to that observed on the F la ta limbata in the imperfect state ; hence we
may conclude it is also one o f those insects which furnish the white w a x * so highly
esteemed in China.
