A single specimen o f this insect, brought from China, and in the possession o f Mr.
Francillon, was employed as the original o f this figure. From the form o f the head it
appears to belong to Serville’s sub-genus, Mesops, but the wings extend beyond the body.

Donovan states that Fabricius erroneously describes this insect as a native o f America,
and that it is not figured elsewhere. Fabricius refers to Dr. H unters Museum, now
belonging to the University of Glasgow.
