T h e present and the n ex t species, by some of our principal
authors upon F e rn s, have been separated from th e Gymno-
grammaSj and placed together with a few others in a separate
genus called Leptogramma. Those classed as Leptogramma
differ from the Qymnograinmas from the circumstance th a t in
the Leptogramma the veins and sori are simple; the rhizoma
and the general habit of growth are unlike th a t of the
Gymnogrammas. I n the elongated sori th ey resemble the genus
Grammitis. In the venation and general h ab it, th e re is a
striking similarity Yvith some of the PohjpodiumSy h u t in the
sori th ey differ widely from this latte r genus. Ou carefully
considering all the characters of these plants, it appears desirable
to re ta in the Leptogrammas amongst the Gijmnogrammas, in
