P L A T E X .
P te r is—Brake. Argyrea—Silvery.
T h e present P e rn is the first variegated one that has been
introduced to cultivators, and is extremely handsome.
Native of Central India.
Introduced by Messrs. Veitch and Son.
Fronds pinnate with pinnatifid pinnæ, the basal ones producing
either one or two posterior branches, generally pinnate; the
segments above an inch in length, and bluntly linear-falcatc
in form. A broad central silvery stripe down the centre of
each pinna makes it a beautiful Fern.
L ength of frond five feet, width two feet and a half.
Caudex short and erect. Stipes long and stout, usually two
feet and a ha lf long; base scaly.
The pinnæ and branches end in a lengthy narrow tail-likc
point.
A very handsome variegated Fern.
Mr. Moore regards this F e rn as nearly allied to P . qitadriaurita,
P . nemoralisy P . felosma, and P . longisjnnula.
My thanks are due to Mr. R. Sim, of Fo o t’s Cray; and to
Mr. E. Cooling, of Derby, for fronds.
The illustration is from Mr. E. Cooling’s fronds.
