A V E R Y interesting, handsome, stove species from tlie West
Indies. Introduced by Mr. E . Sira, of Foot’s Cray, and also
received at tbe Koyal Gardens, Kew , at about the same time.
Mr. Smith announced this Fern as the Gieichenia fu r c a ta of
Swartz;^ b u t Sir "W. ,T. Hooker lias figured it in his “ Species
Filicum” as a glabrous variety of G. puhescens of Willdenow.
The rbizomos of tbis species are nearly as robust as, and by
no means unlike those of, G. flahellata.
I t is a large species, probably attaining the height of four
or five feet, and the abundant dichotomes are very leafy.
Stipes round; fronds repeatedly dicbotomous leafy; pinnæ
pinnatifid, ascending; lanceolate-acuminate iu form; segments
horizontal and linear obtuse. Somewhat glabrous beneath.
For fronds my thanks are due to Mr. R. Sim, of Foot’s
Cray Nursery, Kent.
