GENERIC CHARACTER.
Hymenium cum pilei substantia homogeneum et concretum, poris dissepimentis te-
nuibus simplidbus instructum.— Pileus subcarnosus vel suberosus, plerumque
subsessilis, substantia fibrosa sicca.
Hymenium o f the same substance as the pileus, not separating from it, and
furnished w ith pores connected by simple dissepiments.—Pileus subcarnose
or corky, mostly subsessile ; substance fibrous and dry.

P olyporus a b ie tin u s ; pileo resupinato, demum reflexo, tenui, coriaceo, villoso,
albido, obscure zonato, poris irregulariter sinuato-dentatis, subviolaceis.
P. pileus resupinate, a t length reflexed, thin, coriaceous, villose, white, obscurely
zoned, the pores irregularly sinuato-dentate, somewhat of a violet
colour.

Plants often growing in so crowded a manner as to cover a considerable
extent of surface. Pileus circular, entire, or somewhat lobed, ahout two
inches in breadth, thin, coriaceous, resupinate at first, at length sometimes
reflexed and undulate at the margin, villose, whitish, more or less
impressed with obscure narrow zones. Hymenium at first of a pale viole
t colour, becoming brownish in the centre. Pores while young round
