Stems densely tufted, h a lf an inch to above an inch in length, nearly simple,
slender, erect. Leawei very long, subulato-setaceous, the very extremity
slightly subserrulate, and furnished with a nerve, which becomes
gradually obsolete towards the summit. At the base, the leaves aré
shorter, and point in every direction; but towards the summit they
are greatly lengthened out, and usually more or less directed to one
sid e ; their colour is a tawny shining green. Perichcetial leaves oblongo-
lanceolate, with an elongated setaceous point. Fruitstalk two or three
lines long; straight, erect, (fapsule reddish, erect, when moist obovate,
stria ted : when dry, cyathiforni, furrowed, the orifice very large. L id
hemispherical, with a short, slightly oblique beak. Peristome of 16
bright deep-red linear-lanceolate teeth, very irregularly cleft, and occasionally
even lacunose, inflexed at the summit. Calyptra dimidiate,
pale.
