H y pn um s a le b ro sum ; caule decumbente, subpinnato ml vage ramoso ; foliis
erectiusculis, lanceolatis, longe acuminatis, siriatis, apicem versus serrulatis,
nèrvo ultra medium evanescenti; seta Iwvi; tlieca cernua, opérenlo acute conico.
H. stem decumbent, somewhat pinnate or irregularly branched ; leaves
néarly erect, lanceolate, with a long acumination, striate, serrulate toward
the apex, the nerve disappearing beyond the middle ; fruitstalk
smooth ; capsule cernuous, the lid acutely conical.

Stems growing in rather dense masses, decumbent, 2-6 inches long, irregularly
branched, the branches erect, set with numerous ramuli, either in
an irregular or somewhat pinnate manner. Leaves numerous, shining
green, nearly erect, lanceolate, with a long, almost hair-like acuihina-
tion, the acuminated portion only, subáerrulate : towards the base, they
are furnished with two principal striae ; nerve disappearing above halfway
up. Perichcetial leaves somewhat spreading. Fruitstalk aboUt three-
fourths of an inch in length, smooth. Capsule cernuous, shortly ovate,
dark red, the lid acutely conical. Peristome : outer one of 16 red teeth,
becoming paler at their extremity ; inner one of a meitlbrane cleft into
l6 lacunose segments, with alternating filiform processes as long as the
segments.
