Pileus stipitatus aut latere affixus, subtus lamellis sporuliferis, rectis, simplicibus.
Volva nulla.
Pileus furnished with a stipes, or fixed by its side, having on the under
surface straight, simple, sporuliferous lamellæ. Volva none.

A g a ricu s variabüis ; pileo membranáceo, e resupinato rejlexo, sericeo tomentoso
alho, lamellis albido-rufescentibus.
Ag. pileus membranaceus, resupinate, at length reflexed, sericeous, tomen-
tose, white, lamellae white, becoming reddish.

H ab. On dead trunks and branches of trees, sticks, stalks of herbaceous
plants, &c. in autumn. Very common.
Pileus half an inch to above one inch in breadth, round, or reniform, entire,
sessile, resupinate a t first, becoming graduaUy reflexed, so as ultimately
to be only attached by its side, or obhquely by a small portion of its
upper surface ; very thin, membranaceous, delicate, pure white, downy;
flesh almost none. Lamellæ rather numerous, narrow, much acuminated
as they approach the margin, at first white, gradually changing
to a reddish colour slightly tinged with pink, darkest towards the base,
their common point of origin excentrical.
A very variable species, botb in size, form, and mode of attachment.
