A
c. globosum of K u n z e , and C. chartarmi and gelatinosum
of E h r e n b e r g ; the last only I am acquainted with.
At first sight, the species of this genus have a great resemblance
to hairy Sphoerioe; and I must confess I regarded
my own specimens as such previous to dissection. The structure
of the peridium is however so delicate and fragile, that it
is easy to perceive how far it is removed from the Hypoæyla.
May not Sphæria cornata of T o d e he a Chætomium ?
F r i e s notices the extreme tenuity of the perithecia as well as
T o d e , " membranacea” “ oh tenuitatem conservata semper fere
diffracta,” &c. I never saw what I believed to he Sph. cornata,
but suspect not only that, but some other hairy Sphoerioe might
he better arranged under Chætomium.
