CHIAPAS THBUSH.
Merula plebeia diffevens, Nelson, Proc. Biol. Soc. xiv. p. 175 (1901).
Mr. N elsox separates tlie Turdus plebeius of Chiapas as a distinct race, recognizable by being
browner above, with the lower parts darker brown and more uniform, and with the throat uniform
with the breast and having scarcely a trace of dark streaks. The bill and feet are also said to be
darker. In the British Museum there are four specimens from Chiapas, and I cannot find any
sufficient reason to separate them from Nicaraguan examples, which also show the characters put
forward by Mr. Seebohm.
