Another female, in the Tweeddale Collection, procured at Bua by Mr. Tempest, agrees with the
type of M. vitiensis (also from Bua) in having very little rufous on the abdomen, and this tint may
be an indication of immaturity.
The specimens figured in the Plates are the typical male from Bua given by Mr. Tempest to
Mr. Layard, while the female was procured by the latter’s son Leopold, at Bua, in April 1876.
This specimen as well as a male bird obtained at the same time have been described. Seebohm
has figured the males of these allied species on one Plate and the females on a second.
