shade of which overspreads the chest and even the grey on the sides of the body. Total length
8-4 inches, culmenl-O, wing 4-9, tail 3-4, tarsus T25.
As with other Thrushes of this group, the young male after its first moult greatly resembles the
adult female, but is distinguished by light tips to the greater coverts. A young female after its first
moult, but showing light spots on the greater coverts, is very like the female of M. obscura, but the
breast and sides of the body show a little grey, though this is entirely overshaded with ochreous-
brown. The uniform russet-brown head and back serve to distinguish M.fece even in the young
plumage.
The birds described are an adult male from Loi Maw, in the Shan States, and a from
Muleyit. The latter bird is figured, along with a male bird from Shillong. [R. B. S.]
