W hek I did myfelfthe honour to write to you about the end of
laffc June on the fubjeft of natural hiftory, I fent you a lift of the
fummer-birds of paffage which I have obferved in this neighbourhood;
and alfo a lift of the winter-birds of paffage : I mentioned
befides tliofe foft-billed birds that ftay with us the winter through
in the fouth of England, and thofe that are remarkable for finging
in the night.
According to my propofal, I fhall now proceed to fuch birds
(finging birds ftri&ly fo called) as continue in full fong till after
Midjkmmer; and fhall range them fomewhat in the order in which
they firft begin to open as the fpring advances.
