This is the M itr e o f which I described the animal in the first number o f the Spic ileg ia ; it is allied to
M . acuminata of Swainson, b u t differs in being striated, tha t species having the inne r lip, like this and the
following, less thickened and reflexed.

Shell ovate, conical, solid, pale brown, slightly spirally s tria te d ; spire conical, attenuated, acute. Mouth
contracted, pale, inner lip thickened, expanded in fro n t; outer Up thickened internally, grooved, with a deep
groove behind.

Allied to M. Ziervogeliana, b u t smoother, and spire longer an d more acute.

Shell ovate, fusiform, solid, pale brown, covered with a smooth, olive, periostracum ; whorls rather round
b e h in d ; u p p e r ones spirally punctately striated, last with a few obscure grooves in f ro n t; throat pa le brown.
Inhab. China.
When worn covered with white. Sometimes the striae are deepe r than a t others.
CYME IUM .
The animal like Voluta, b u t the respiratory canal la rg e r; the appendix on the right side of llie canal is
bent back, and the one on the left forwards. The foot is very large and longitudinally fo ld ed ; the hood is
ha lf circular, with the small tentacles near its edges, and with the eyes far behind their base. The mantle is
n o t enlarged nor reflexed. Operculum none.
I have examined C. porcina and C. Olla.

Shell ovate, globose, solid, smooth, pale yellow, imperforated ; ihe spire sliort, conical ; whorls rounded,
flattened and marked with close wavy concentric brown lines behind. Mouth white, inner lip callous, convex,
and covers the front of the axis. Axis 1 inch.
