Stem (hrubfry, upright, branched, knotty.. Bark fmooth, cracking longitudinally. Branches op-
polite, fpreading, round, fcarceLy divided, leafy, covered with fmooth green bark. Buds gummy,
L eaves oppolite, fpreading, lanceolato-ellipticál,' fomewhat lengthened at the point, equal at the
bafe, entire, v ery fmooth, paler beneath, marked with alternate veins projecting on both lides.
Foot/lalks very fhort, thick, round below, flattilh above. Stipula between the leaves, connate,
triangular, pointed, very linooth, pale, clofely prefled to the branch.
Flowers axillary, moftly folitary, between the ftipute, on footftalks, a little nodding, very large,
white; beautiful, moft fragrant at night, in the bud yellowilh tipped with red.
Flower-stalks ihortilh, round, fmooth.
B ractejb none.
C alyx altogether above the germen, confifting o f five ovate pointed leaves, a little curved backwards,
carinated at the bafe, reddith towards the top, permanent.
Corolla o f one petal, funnel-lhaped. Tube with five lharp downy angles, inflated at the top.
Limb in five nearly equal fomewhat triangular fegments, margined, fpreading, at length revolute.
Stamina. Filaments five, placed on the germen, declined, thread-lhaped, fcarce as long as the tube,
downy at the bafe. Anthera very long, linear, vertical, ftraight.
