Noire de Montreuil, o f some French Nurseries.
I t has been the fate of almost every Peach of
high merit to be known by many different appellations,
particular cultivators having given names of
their own to th a t which was named before. Thus
this, one of the most delicious of the varieties that
ripen in the beginning of September, has no fewer
than five names, under all of which it is often cultivated.
In addition to its good qualities as a fruit, this
possesses the merit of being a remarkably healthy
tree, not subject to mildew. Both by the French
and ourselves it is placed among the foremost class
of melting Peaches. I t comes in at the beginning
of September, after the Red Magdalen.
Leaves crenated, with globose glands.
F lowers small, bright reddish pink.
