This Cherry is generally considered to have
been brought into this country by the late Mr.
John Fraser, from Russia. In the account given of
it in the Pomona Londinensis, it is stated to have
been introduced from Circassia, by Mr. Hugh Ronalds,
of Brentford, in 1794. We have also heard
it said th a t it originated in Spain, whence it was
transmitted to the Russian Gardens, and through
them into England.
I t is a Cherry of great excellence, bearing well
as a standard, but doing best on an east or west
wall, on which its branches are usually loaded
with a profusion of rich and handsome fruit. I t
has received in our Gardens a variety of names, of
which those given here as synonyms are only a
portion; b u t those which are omitted are readily
referable to some of the above.
W ood vigorous. B ranches spreading, the bark
of the young shoots light-coloured and spotted.
