iu conjunólion with fome other learned men, a review, as
well o f all books publiihed in Sweden, or by Swedes abroad,
as of thofe works printed in foreign countries, which had any
relation to this kingdom. As this publication contained alfo,
befide. the mere reviews, a few original aóts, it was called
A lla Literaria Suecia ; and was carried on upon this plan
for ten years. At the end o f that period, namely, in 1730,
the tranfaótions were no longer confined to a review of
books, but confifted entirely o f original aóts and difíértations;
and the fociety, now patronized by the king, ftyled itfelf, in
the dedication to his Majetty, Societas Regia ; and its tranfaótions,
which came out annually, A tla Literaria et Scienti-
arum Suecia.
In 1740 itaffumed the title o f Societas Regia Literaria et
Scientiarum Upfalienjis, adopting the laft expreffion inftead of
Suecia, in order to diftinguiih it from the Academy o f Sciences
o f Stockholm, inftituted in 1739, which was denominated
Societas Regia Suecia.
The fociety continued its publications upon the fame plan
until 1750, when it ceafed; but was again revived in 17 7 3 ,
at which period its tranfaótions were iffued under the title of
Nova ASla Regia Societatis Scientiarum Upfalienjis. Thefe
aóts make their .appearance in feparate parts, which are not
put forth regularly every year, but only occafionally, as there
are a fufficient number o f difíértations; and as the fociety,
which has no fund, can afford the expence o f printing.
They are all written in the Latin tongue, and printed in
quarto. The original numbers, namely, thofe iffued from
17:20 to 1750, are comprized in fix volumes. The new
aóts already publiihed are in four parts: the firft appeared
in 17 7 3 j and the laft in 1783.
