T h e Ferns included under the family Asplenieoe as so well
marked, that it would not be easy to mistake the great majority
of them. They differ from the Pte rideæ in the position of the

the midrib, or axis of venation.
The sori are elongated, venules free or anastomosing, sori

The Asplenieoe comprise the Scolopendrium, Diplazium, A s plénium,
Ceterach, Neottopteris, Antigramma, CallijHeris, and
one or two other small tribes.
