to (lie base, wlicre the car-like division is also sui)j)llcd with
sori. The frond tailoring to the ajicx. Stem blackish, excciit
for a third of its length near the ajicx, where it is green; near
the base of the frond there are about thirteen iiairs of sori,
gradually diminishing iu number as the ajiex of the frond is
aiiiiroaclicd, and terniiiiating in a single one near the ajiex.
Several jilants have been scut to me bearing this name, hut
none of them the true A . auritum; it seems therefore doubtful
whether Swartz’s jilant can be iirocurod from our Nurserymen.
For fronds I am indebted to Dr. Hooker, of the Royal
Gardens, Kew.
The illustration is from a frond sent by Dr. Hooker.
