A n exceedingly beautiful, rare, and noble-looking species,
attaining a large size, and very dissimilar in general appearance
to the genus A splenium, although in some respects closely allied.
An evergreen stove Pern.
Native of Tropical America, Mexico, and the West Indies.
Leibmann remarks that it occurs in the warm temperate
forests of Myrtles, Terehinthaceie, and Laurineas, between Joc-
otepec and S. Pedro Tepinapa, in Chinantla, in the Department
of Oajaca, at an altitude of from three thousand to three
thousand five hundred feet.
