PLOCAMIUM COCCINEUM, Lyngb.
Gen. C h a b . Root fibrous. Frond pinky-red, linear, compressed or flat,
ribless, or faintly nerved, cellular, distichously much b ra n c h e d ; the
ramuh alternate, or secund, acute. Fructification of two kinds on
distinct in d iv id u a ls; 1, spherical tubercles (coccidia) sessile or stalked,
marginal or axillary, containing a globular mass of angular sp ores;
2, lateral or axihary, simple or branched pods [stichidia) containing a
double or single row of transversely parted, oblong tetraspores.

branches irregularly alternate, p a te n t; ram u h subulate, seound, three
