Among those who came here to do homage to K in g E dw a rd on the occasion
o f his coronation was the Katikiro, or Prime Minister to the youthful king o f
Uganda. Ap olo K a gw a is a man o f exceptional ability, well-educated and genial,
who displayed an intelligent interest and a worthy curiosity in everything that this
country offered, or that occurred to him as new or strange. H e was accompanied
by his Secretary H um Mukasa, a man scarcely less intelligent than himself, who
kept a diary o f events and made abundant notes o f all the wonders o f their travel
experiences, with a view to recording them for the benefit and amusement of
their fellow-countrymen. T h e re is a freshness and naiveti about the record o f
these two unsophisticated gentlemen o f colour that is irresistible, while every
page abounds with touches o f unconscious humour o f a delightful kind.
