My way wound across rice-fields and embankments ;
the dew lay heavy on the stubble and the grass,
chanticleèr crowed lustily from the edge of the jungle ;
and the sunlight
streamed in great
wàves -across the

which I was passing.
But in a very
little while I broke
away from human
sèttlements, andbe:
came immersed in
the cloistral gloom
and silence of thé

feet the dead leaves
