on the fpot. T h e reft, with Mr. Phillips, their Lieutenant* Sunday
threw themfelves into the water, and efcaped, under cover
o f a fmart fire from the boats. On this occafion, a remarkable
inftance o f gallant hehaviour, and o f affeition for. his
men, was ihewn by that officer. For he had fcarcely got
into the boat, when, fee ing one o f the marines, who was a.
