From this time the water continued for twelve hours,
without any vifible alteration, viz. till 161 15" apparent time,
when it began to ebb j and at 221 15" apparent time, it was
low water. The change, from ebbing to flowing, was
very quick, or in lefs than 5". T he water rofe and fell feven
feet four inches perpendicular; and every day the fame
whilll we continued there.

ON the 28th day o f January 1780, we unmoored; and,
as foon as we were clear o f the harbour, fleered South
South Weft for Pulo Timoan. On the 30th, at noon, the
latitude, by obfervation, being 5° o' North, and longitude
104° 45' Eaft, we altered our courfe to South three quarters
Weft, having a moderate .breeze from the North Eaft, ac-
.companied by fair weather. -At two in the morning o f
the 31 ft, we had foundings o f forty-five.fathoms, over a
bottom o f fine white fand ; at which time our latitude was
4° 4' North, longitude 104° 29' Eaft, and the variation o f the
compafs o '.3.1' Eaft.
At one in the afternoon, we faw Fulo Timoan ; and, at
three, it bore South South Weft three quarters Weft, diftant
ten miles. This ifland is high and woody, and has feveral
fmall ones ly in g off to the Weftward. At five, Puls Puif-
fang was feen bearing South by Eaft three quarters Eaft ;
and, at nine, the weather being thick and hazy, and hav-
