neareft, was diftant 7 leagues ; the obferved latitude was 30° 14', longitude

In the afternoon, the wind blew a moderate gale at w. n.w ., which
brought us by day-light the next morning within fight of the ifland of Monday 16,
Guadaloupe. This ifland is compofed of high naked rocky mountains ;
is about thirteen miles long, nearly in a north and fouth direction,
with two rocky iflets; one lying w. s .w „ at the diftance of half a league;
