Numerous beautiful specimens, received from our friend tb c Rev. Lansdown Guilding, o f this
minute Fern, enable us to give what we trust will be found to be satisfactory figures o f this little
k uoini, though wc believe not uncommon, species. The only ones th a t exist, th a t we arc aware of,
are, th a t o f the younger Hcdwig, which is acknowledged by Willdenow and Smith to be b ad ; and
that o f Sloane, which, though usually (and even by Swartz) cjuotcd under T r . muscoidcs, we th in k is
better referred to this.
We have reason, indeed, to believe that the T r . muscoides and r e p ta n s have been confounded by
b o tan ists; but the former dificrs from the latter (as wc propose ou another occasion to .show more
clearly hy a plate) by its narrower, more beautifully reticulated and loss veined frond, in the substance
o f which the involucres arc inserted. W e have another nearly allied .species from Guiana,
gathered by Mr. Parker, in which there is a strong nerve, having only as many divisions as tlicro
arc lobes to the frond.
