 Caudex repens,  tomentosas,  fibrosus. 
 Stipes  3-pedalis,  lævis,  fuscus, nitidus,  teres,  repetitim  dicliotomus,  ex axillis proliferus,  foliaceo-bracteatus,  ramis  
 ultimis frondosis. 
 Frondes geminato-fiircatæ ;  singula lanceolata apice  attenuata,  infra medium latiore, basi  subangustiore,  paululum  
 falcata profunde pinnatifida,  segmentis  horizontalibus,  linearibus,  subattenuafis,  apice  obtusis,  emarginatis,  
 margine Ìntegro  (nisi in speclminibus nostris e Nova HoDandia e t Insula Mauritii, ubi segmentis inferioribus  
 iterum pumatifidis).  Color  partis superioris frondium viridis,  subtus  glaucus.  Racliis  costaque glabræ,  stata  
 juniore non  raro pubescentes.  Nervi obliqui,  obscuri,  dichotomi. 
 Sori  e  capsulis  5—10,  nervis,  intra  costam  e t  marginem  insertis,  rotandato-pyriformibus,  pallide  flavo-fiiscis,  
 indusio destitutis,  reticulatis,  annulo lato  dìstincto  arliculato  integro  cinctis,  brevissime  pedicellatis,  superne  
 hiantibus. 
 Sm in a  minuta, oblonga,  subreniformia.

 ex a c tly   th e   ap p e a ra n c e   o f   th a t   o f  P o ly p o d ium   p e c tin a lum .  P ro b a b ly   th e  M e r te n s ia   em a rg in a ta   o f
