 Although  it  appears  that  this  Petrel  is only  known  to  
 breed  in  two  or  three  British  localities,  it  is,  in  my  
 experience,  much  more  frequently  picked  up,  storm-driven, 
   inland  than  the  common  Storm-Petrel.  In  
 Northamptonshire, for  instance, I  am  acquainted  with  
 four  or five  occurrences of  the  present  species in  recent  
 years,  whilst I  only  know  positively of  one  Storm- 
 Petrel  having  been  met  with  in  the  county. I  have  
 seen a few  Forked-tailed  Petrels  in  the "  chops of  the  
 channel"  and  in  the  Bay of  Biscay,  but  have  no  more  
 intimate  acquaintance  with  the  bird.  In flight  and  
 general  demeanour  at sea  this  Petrel  closely  resembles  
 the  Storm-Petrel,  but  at close  quarters  alongside  or  
 astern,  may  readily  be  distinguished from  that  bird  by
