in  Grebes,  that  the  present  species  may  at all  times  be  
 distinguished from  the  Eared  Grebe—the only  British  
 species  with  which  it  might  otherwise  be  confounded—  
 by  the  remarkable difference  in  the form of  the  beak,  
 which in  the  subject of  this  article  is  straight,  whilst  the  
 lower  mandible of  the  former  bird  has a  very  marked  
 upward  inclination.
