GENERIC CHARACTER.
Calix imbricated, subsquarrose, foliaceous. Receptacle paleaceous, flat. Pappus paleaceous,
2-leaved, caducous.
SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
Stems weak, slender, sub-one-flowered j leaves linear, margin re volute, rough.

Root perennial. Stem from two to three feet high, irregular' and
undulating, cylindrical and very smooth and shining. Leaves by pairs,
opposite below, alternate above, very scabrous on the upper disk and
margins, each pair very remote from the next, often on the lower part
