Pentandria Digynia, Linn. Gentiarse, Juss.
GENERIC CHARACTER.
Calix half 5-cleft, or half 5-parted. Corolla tubulous at the base, campanulate j border
4 or 5 cleft; divisions ciliate or entire, spreading, erect or connivent,
sometimes furnished with intermediate plaits. Stamina 4 or 5, distinct or
connate. Capsule 2-valved, 1-celled; receptacles 2, longitudinal.
SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
Stem terete, smooth; leaves oblong-lanceolate, three-nerved; flowers sessile, fasciculated,
terminal and axillary ; corolla 2-cleft, campanulate, ventricose ; divisions
obtuse.
