OBSERVATIONS.—M. Charpentier l iarág figiu'ed the male, I have here represented the other sex,
which is one of the most singulai'-looldng Orthopterous insects. De Haan describes the female larva
from Java as being armed -nith still longer spines on the prouotmn and legs than the perfect insect,
and adds, " Het is deze Locusta, door de Javanen Jangkreh op Aduh Jangkrik, Veclit-krekel genaamd,
welke zij te zamen in kokers van bamboes vechten. Op deu nitslag dezer vechtpartijen honden zij
aanzienlijke Weddingschappen, Volgens Raffles, History of Java, i. 349, en Crawfiu'd, i". p. 231."

OBSERVATIONS.—The legs are destitute of spines; the fore t ibi s are thickened near the base, with
a deep slit on each side, forming two raised oval glossy lobes, thus differing from the oval opérenla in
the fore legs of many of this family. The oripositor is about half the length of the abdomen, gradually
acuminated to the tip.
