numevosis quadratis albis puniceo cinctis, apicibus pallidis.

Inhabits Prince of Wales Island (Dr. Cantor). In the Collection of the Rev. F. W. Hope.
DESCRIPTION.—The head is sul3-horizontaI, with a small protuberance between the antennse and with
two others conjoined together immediately behind the former. The palpi are short and pilose. The
hind part of the pronotum is slightly produced and flat, with a small V-Uke impression about the
middle. The abdomen is brown and glossy, terminating in two short curved setose appendages. The
legs are short, pale coloiued with dark-coloiu-ed spines ; the fore tibiiB have the small oval plate at the
base ; the hind legs are comparatively short and weak. The three sterna are flat and unarmed. The
position of the principal veins of the wings will be perceived on examining the Plate, but the fore
wings, under a strong lens, are seen to be most densely covered with a net-work of reticulations,
which often radiate from certain points in a very beautiful and unusual manner. The pink colour extends
over the greater part of the hind wings, but is for the most part subdued by the brown tint.
The general appearance of the insect is almost as much that of a large Perla as of a grasshopper.
