Papilio, with the fore wmgs entii-ely, and the hmd wmgs at the base, dull brown ; the former longitudinally striped
with black betiveen the veins, the latter blacl;: beyond the middle, tailed and deeply sinuated, with a large white
discoidal spot (extending to the anal margin and di-vided by three veins), and with 4 lunules (the outer one being
smaher than the preceding), a round spot near the extremity of the taü, and another smaller spot in the angle
below the anal angle, all red, h-rorated with brown scales. The head, neck, and abdomen beneath varied with
red. (Male and female).
Expansion of the fore wings, 5 inches.
Inhabits Nepaul. In the Collection of the British Museum and Mr. MacLeay.
Syn. PapiHo Latreillii. Donov. Nat. Repos. v. 4, pi. 140 (pessima.)
OBSERVATIONS.—I tliink it not improbable that it will ultimately be found that this supposed
species is only a local variety of the following:—

adjecta, lunnlis tribiis rufis vel albo-rufis maculaque rufa ad apicem caudie strigaque in pagina infera, ex ángulo
anah rufis.
Papilio, mt h the fore wings of tlie male black, the female brown with black longitudinal streaks between the veins,
the hind wings more or less elongated, tailed, and deeply sinuated, with a large white spot near the outer angle,
occasionally with a smaller spot on either side of it, and with three red, or red and white hmulcs, a red spot at the
extremity of the tail, and with a vai-iable streak of red extending inwardly from the anal angle on the under side of
liind mngs.
Expansion of the foro wings, 4;^ to inches.
Inhabits Assam, Sylliet, Nepaul, &c.
OliSERVATioNs.—I havc considered the different insects represented in fig-ures 2, 3, 4, and 5, in the
accompanying plate as local varieties of one species (to which probably P. Minereus will subsequently
have to be added).
Figiu'c 4 will be seen in its general form to agree with P. Minereus, as well as in possessing
a white tripartite spot near the anal angle of the hind wings on the upper side. This variety
is in the fine collcction of Captain Boys. The markings on the upper side of the hind wings exhibit
very little red; they are more brilliant on the under side in which the spots at the anal angle are
