Saturiiia alia supra fulvo-rufls versus basin purpiu-eo parum coloratis siugulaque ocello paryo vitreo ornata ; anticis
falcatis striga undata fere obsoleta ante medium alteraque fere recta plumbeo-nigra postica j posticia atrigis duabus
plumbeo-nigris, una aute, altera pone medium, hac uudata et minus distincta.
Saturnia with the wings above fulvous red, with a purple tinge near the base, each marked in the middle with a
small talc-like ocellua ; the fore wings falcate, with a small undulated striga, nearly obsolete before the middle, and
another beyond the middle, much darker, leaden-black and nearly straight (extending from near the apex towards the
middle of the inner margin, the tip stained wdth purplish chocolate and the outer margin with grey), hind wings with
two leaden blaek atrigoe, one nearly straight and darker before, and the other waved beyond the middle, outer
mai'gin yellow-grey. The female has the fore wings not quite so falcate, the colom's less brilhant, the ocellus of the
hind w^mg nearly obsolete, and with a small grey patch between the ocellus of the fore wing and the costa.
Expansion of the fore wmgs, inches.
Inhabits Sylhet and Assam.
OBSERVATION.—The spocimen represented in the plate is a male belonging to H. G. Harrington, Esq.
The female was sent to me from Assam, by Major Jenkins.

Satiu'nia ahs flavis, costa anticarum gi-isea, singula ooulo magno fulvo-brunneo iride purpurascente, lunula tenui
alba pupillaqne angusta nigi-a ; pone medium triplici aerie atrigarum nigrarum valde imdata et dentata, interna
obsoletiori, externa alarum anticoriun in macula nigra subapicali termiuata, lunulisque auguatia, aubmarginalibua
albia ; anticis fascia dentata pallide roaea aubbaaah maeulaque apicali fulva ; poaticis etiam striga abbreviata ad
angidum ani rosea.
Saturnia with all the wings yellow, the costa of the fore ones grey ; each with a fulvous brown eye-like spot,
having the middle pm-plish, surmounted by a curved white streak, and bordered with a slender black line, beyond
the middle of each wing is a triple series of very slender greyiah-blaek lines, very much waved and dentated, the
innermost of which ia moat obsolete and the outer one terminates neai' the tip of the fore winga in a blaek demi-oval
apot, followed by a fulvous apical dash with two white apical luuulea, and a aubmarginal series of very slender pale
luuules in all the wings ; the fore winga have moreover a pale rosy denta,te fascia, near the base, and the hind onea an
abbreviated one of the same colour near the anal angle.
Expansion of the fore wmgs, nearly 4 inches.

Saturnia aha supra brunneo-rufis, anticis striga transversa obscuriori versus basin, ocello parvo vitreo medio ;
striga tenui nigricanti dentata pone medium faaciaque lata transversa griaeo-fusca utrinque dentata, margine
externo parallela apiceque griaeo, postieis baai pallide grisco, in medio circulo magno incompleto nigro, oculnm rufo
albo nigroquo varicgatum includente ; fascia fusca submarguiali extus lìnea subdentata terminata.
Saturnia with the wings .above rich brownish red ; the fore ones with an obscure transverse striga near the base ;
a small somewdiat diamond shaped talc-like ocellus in the middle, fohowed by a dentated darker striga, beyond
which is a broad grey-brown fascia dentated on each side, terminating at the apex in a grey patch ; hind wings pale
yellowish grey at the base, with a large incomplete black circul.ar mark inclosing an eye-like spot, with a black centre,
a white ring aud a broader red outside ; behind this the black m.ark extends tr.ansversely to the anal margin, and
beyond this ia a broad red-brown indiatiuct fascia, outwardly edged with a slender darker brown dentated striga.
