I had formerly 4 houghUthis. -Bogota bird might be the same as
the Cèntral American E. hirundinacea, but I have lately obtained
other specimens, and find that suehris-not the oafee.- The. uppêï. colouring
of this bird is not ofthe peculiar tureen shade which exists in
the true hirundinacea, and the yellow head,' instead-of being.confined
to the frontal half and terminated by a straight line, extends further
back and is posteriorly rounded. The bill'df this bird is also thicker,
broader and stronger, and shows iriore approach hnthe true Bolivian
laniirostris,
I am not now certain“whether it is this specie&'or the hirundinacea
to which the Baron de la Ereshaye has given »the MS. name tforti-
r os tris.

i had not very good specimens of this bird when Ï described it in
P . Z. S. for 1854, and the figure there .given would suit bejttçr my
Euphonia crassirostris. M. Salle, however, has lately brought some
beautifully prepared skiûs from Southern Mexico, which hâté enabled
me to détermine the spfecies more satisfactorily.
I have seen -specimens in Which the white belly-spbt, which_is pér- ‘
haps produced by abrasion of the feathers in the most àdult birds,
was scarcely apparent,
