Prince Bonaparte, in his ‘Note s. 1. Tangaras,’ has followed the
example of some of the older authors in considering this bird as the
female of T. ornata ; but I have not the i slightest doubt that it is
quite a distinct species. See d’Orbigny’s Voyage, p. 274, and P.
Max. of Men Wied’s Beitrage, iii. 489.

' This is perhapsR local variety only of the common T. palmarum,
presenting^no green edgings to the primaries or secondaries beyond
the green tbar. I ’have birds from S. Martha, Trinidad and Bolivia,
which segm intermediate between this and the former species.
