The genus to which lliis plant belongs, as at present hmileci by Professor LISDLEY, is rich in curious
anil l)eauliful species:—moi-e especially in ^^cxico, iVom whence several have been already received, and
from whence inmiy more have yet to Ibllow. \\'ith respect to the distinctive characters of Oiicidium,
Odoiitogiossum, and Ci/riac/ii/niii, some excellent remoj-ks will be (bund in Part of the Serf urn Orchi-
(laccum (sub. Tab. X X f r o m wiiich we copy the following:—
" The true chanicters of Otloittoglomnii, and those by which alone it ran bo distinguished generally
from Cyrtochihrn and Oiicid/i/iii, are, a long column, and an entire iinguiculate lip, naiTONN'ing to the point,
and furnished, at tlie base, with a pair of fleshy, entire, or fringed lamella;, in Irout of which stand two, or
rarely three, teelh, or bristle.s. In this view of the case, Mr. Hatemans Ci/r/ocliiluii/ S'lctoniena e will
belong to OdoutogloxKtm."
T o Ihc character of the genus, as here laid down by Dr . LINDLEY, die lip of the present species
{being distinctly ihrce-lobed) oflers a remarkable exception : it conforms, however, so periectly in otliei'
respects, tliat we cannot doubt its being a true Odonto!Tlo.isuin.
