GENERIC CHARACTER.
Calix double; exterior 2-leaved, scariose, convolute, truncated, and much shorter
than the interior; interior calix monophyllous, semi-quinquifid, and densely
tomentose. Corolla none. Lepanthium cylindric, 5-toothed, staminiferous.
Stigma simple, capitate, pubescent. Utriculus 1-seeded, inclosed in the indurate,
muricate calix. Nutt.
SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
Oplotheca Floridana ; stem and branches pubescent j leaves lanceolate.
Root perennial. Plant erect, from two to three feet high. Stem
thick, cylindrical and striate under a lens, dichotomously branched,
pubescent. Branches enlarged, or nearly gibbous at the fork. Leaves
opposite, sessile, long and narrow-lanceolate, acute, undulate, with a
