GENERIC CHARACTER.
Calix 5-parted. Corolla salver-form, rather large, tube straight, much longer than the
calix, closed at the base by a bearded ring; orifice naked, or partially closed;
border orbiculate, nearly flat; segments rounded. Seed indurated, shining,
(as in Lithospermum.) Nutt.
SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
Stem and upper leaves sericeously canescent or villous; calicine segments subulate,
much shorter than the tube, hairy at the base. B.
