GENERIC CHARACTER.
Spadix cylindric, covered with florets. Corolla about 6-petalled, naked. Style and
stigma scarcely any. Utriculus 1-seeded.
SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
Leaves lanceolate-ovate; scape cylindric, spiked. Willd.
An aquatic plant. Root large, succulent, perennial, deep seated in
mud or mire. Scape sheathing, from nine to ten inches long,
cylindrical, clavate, sienna-yellow, delicately maculated with red
spots, slightly angular, curved, snow-white and shining near the
